Coping with mental illness family information support meetings

We are happy to offer via videoconference (OTN) a series of meetings on Coping with mental illness – family information support in partnership with the Royal Ottawa Hospital

These are stand alone meetings for family and caregivers which will take place here (Seaway Valley Community Health Centre, 353 Pitt St).  No registration is needed.

While these meetings will be delivered via videoconference, we will have staff from mental health agencies on site.

Hunger Awareness Challenge 2017

In honour of Hunger Awareness Week (September 17th to 22nd, 2017) the Agape Food Bank and Soup Kitchen has launched a Hunger Awareness Fundraising Challenge to help raise funds and awareness to issues faced by individuals who suffer from hunger or lack access to fresh and nutritious food. 

I have been invited to participate in this local challenge as a “Hunger Awareness Champion” by eating only food items provided from the food bank for a single person over 6 days. I will be provided with a $10 allowance to spend on any food items for the week and may also choose 6 items from my personal pantry from a list of acceptable items, (including coffee, tea, spices, etc.). I am asked to refrain from eating out, attending gatherings where food is served and from any alcoholic beverages. I am also encouraged to attend the soup kitchen for at least one meal during the challenge week.

I welcome your meal planning and food preparation tips to stretch the food supply for the entire week. I will soon post the list of  food and staples I have to available to me.

Finally, I am asked to solicit moral and financial support from those willing to pledge funds towards this 6-day challenge with a goal of raising $1000 for the Agape Centre.  All donations over $20 will receive a charitable receipt from Agape. Please use the pledge form below to make a donation.

Walk of Life 2017

The WALK OF LIFE is a national fundraising campaign organized by the Cardiac Health Foundation of Canada and administered by local cardiac rehabilitation programs in their own area. The mission of the Cardiac Health Foundation is to provide public education on cardiac health and heart disease prevention, support cardiac rehabilitation programs across the country in reducing cardiovascular disease, and to provide funding for scholarships for cardiac research. Walking and exercise-based cardiac rehabilitation programs are widely recommended as part of the continuum of cardiovascular care and the reason why the National WALK OF LIFE campaign was started. In 2003, 15 communities across Canada raised over $200,000 for cardiac rehabilitation. In 2015, over $1 Million was raised for cardiac rehabilitation by 26 programs across the country.

On August 25, 2017, the Cardiac Tele-Rehab program at Seaway Valley Community Health Centre will be hosting their 2nd Annual WALK OF LIFE. We invite you to come join us at Lamoureux Park  (100 Water Street, Cornwall ON, FREE PARKING) at 5:00 PM for a 3km Fun-Walk to support our local program. This event aims to bring together SVCHC clients, volunteers, staff and community partners to raise awareness for Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Secondary Prevention. All funds raised from this event will go directly back into the SVCHC programs.

Our goal is to reach 50 participants & raise $5,000.00!
