Seaway Valley Community Health Centre (SVCHC) is proud to announce and gratefully acknowledge a generous donation from Rotary Club of Cornwall Sunrise and Rotary Club of Cornwall. This contribution will enable the Centre to purchase specialized diagnostic equipment essential for delivering cardiovascular screening services to residents of our community. This initiative will support the Million Hearts campaign from the University of Ottawa Heart Institute, which is looking to screen one million Canadians for heart disease.
The newly acquired point-of-care testing device allows SVCHC’s Cardiac Rehabilitation team to screen community members before they are diagnosed with heart disease by measuring blood sugar and lipid levels quickly and efficiently during a single appointment. This technology provides immediate results, helping providers identify individuals at risk of cardiovascular disease which is one of the leading causes of hospitalization and death in Canada. This initiative also leverages allied health care providers to address preventative risk factors for those that otherwise, may not have had access to health care services.
“With this support from Rotary, we can now offer vital screening services that remove barriers and help recognize health concerns early,” said Leslie-Anne McDonald, Registered Nurse with the Cardiac Rehabilitation program at Seaway Valley Community Health Centre. “Early detection saves lives. This equipment will allow us to expedite treatment pathways, whether through attachment to primary care or referral to programs for support.”
